The co - founders were driven to create AAMRI in recognition that those basic needs can be met when we center the youth in projects that are tethered to the histories of their global networks, elevating their workforce ready technical skills and providing a platform to amplify their voices, it is a different museum model. It is a model that recognizes the vast troves of material culture, community memory, organic historians and the role that narrative can play in youth. If that is the place that Billy Taylor would share his stories and build this community and I as a youth researched that story, built a digital package of that story and now it is sitting as a visual exhibition in the African American Museum of Rhode Island I see myself and am seen differently.
