Our mission is to educate, inspire, and foster a deeper understanding of the African American experience through engaging exhibits, dynamic programs, and community outreach. We recognize and honor the diverse African diasporas represented in Rhode Island, including those with roots in Africa, the Caribbean, and Latin America.

The African American Museum of Rhode Island in 2025 is building out its foundation in the community by working with youth and elders to research, gather stories and establish relationships.
As we work toward the goal of a permanent home the elements of a museum: objects, provenance, detailed research and facilitation of community through story telling continues our mission.
